How to choose the perfect accessories for your engagement shoot?

This past year my bridal boutique and wedding collection has really been growing and I've emersed myself into the wedding vendor world. I am very proud of where my jewellery path has emegered and am excited to see where else it takes me. In February I did a shoot with an amazing group of talented vendors (full list below photos) at the beautiful Berkeley Field house for the highly anticipated Love struck expo, a faux wedding disguised as a wedding trade show.

As a bride and groom heading into your engagement session, you've got the theme, the photographer, maybe even the planner to help you make the most beautiful engagement photos... Now for the outfit accessories! What I like to think of as the piece de resistance! For the shoot below and for your engagement session shoot, here are some pointers on what you should do to make your accessories pop!

My suggestion is play up your theme, you only get one engagement shoot! If you are going for a 1920's art deco wedding theme, have your engagement session have some Great Gatsby inspired feeling to it, maybe a great rhinestone head piece, with a pearl hand bracelet combo, like this photo. My company Hattitude Jewellery will be releasing a line of these awesome hand chains later this spring.
If you are shooting in the country at your families horse farm, wear a horse themed charm bracelet made from vintage cuff links and other cute oddities. below is a custom bracelet designed for a horse loving gal. There is so much to play up and make yourself feel like a princess with accessories!

Here's the photos from the amazing shoot at Berekely Field house. Be ready to sit down in a chair as your heart beats up at the preciousness that is these photos.

Love by Lynzie events
created this DIY back drop. I took the theme of a fairytale flower and created a necklace with just the right amount of bling and pop with the soft subtle classic bride pearls. A fun tradition some brides are doing is taking three of their grandmothers brooches, and having them turned into custom necklaces they then wear it for all three events, their engagement session photos, their rehearsal dinner and then finally for their wedding day. Each piece is different, yet a similar theme throughout the photos and a beautiful memory of your family heirlooms.

a christmas poem and how to wear a statement necklace

Every Tuesday until Christmas 5-8pm
Caledon East studio shopping hours
T'was 44 days before Christmas, when all through the town,
every person was thinking, about what to do now?
The people were thinking, about their gifts with care,
should they buy local, and feel all prepared?

The jewellery was made all pretty in different shades,
while custom pieces were still being handmade.
The studio shopping hours were ready to go,
5-8pm every Tuesday in Caledon East for show.

When out of the blue you thought ah yes,
I want to avoid the congested mall crowds and all of the jest,
Shopping hours I shall head to in a flash,
Not a moment to lose, I must dash!

You're thinking so hard about what to give and receive,

ah-ha that's easy, one of a kind gift it will be.
Here's a way to wear the statement necklaces that are so hot this season. Try it with a jean collared shirt, a textured neutral skirt (is a dress underneath) and a knit pullover sweater with this snakes and ladders statement necklace hand designed by me. You can view it in my shop. Click Here.

I love hats in the fall. What's your favourite go-to clothing or accessories piece this fall? The autumn is cool enough that your head does not sweat from the heat of the hat, but yet warm enough that you don't need a wooly hat to keep your ears warm against the snow and wind. Fall is a great time of year for layering. I love the little details, like rolling up pant legs, with big socks. With vests and statement necklaces. Statment necklaces are the number one essential piece you MUST have in your wardrobe this year. I think they are amazing and take any outfit from a blah to a zing! Autumn is the perfect season to get your fashion on.

I just got back from England 5 days ago, and it was my first time in Europe. I had goosebumps the entire time. No one prepares you for the majestic feeling you have walking into a building that is over a 1,000 years old. It was incredible.

I loved how everyone dressed in London, in fact one of my favourite things to do was just sit on the tube and watch all the different people that would get on and see what they all were wearing! The men in europe are so stylish, every single man in london was dressed to the nines. I hope you all had a wonderful past two weeks. What's your favourite place in Europe? England? London?

an english inspired outfit

Crown Jewels necklace click here
Sweater: Winners
Kilt: Thrifted, Chez thrift, bolton
Necklace: Hattitude jewels
Collared shirt: Thrifted
Boots: Town shoes
Hat: Queen st. west, Toronto

It's now turned from summer heat wearing dresses to wearing my fleece tights, my kilts and warm sweaters! It sure was chilly today - 5 degrees! brrr.

This is a Europe inspired outfit. I just got back from spending two weeks in England. I just adore this floppy hat. Something about putting on a floppy hat and instantly your outfit goes from a 1950's grandmother's outfit and turns into a modern day fashion look. High boots are also important in this type of look. If you don't have knee high boots, that is shame and that must be remedied for this season! I think high boots modernize any outfit and are great for longer wool skirts, that COULD be frumpy but updates them to be stylish.
The three patterns on this outfit all work well together because they are either small pattern or they have a lot of cream or solid colour background to compliment it. Throwing on a statement necklace is also important when trying to modernize pullover sweaters and below the knee length skirts. Statement necklaces look awesome over collared shirts and pull over sweaters or cardigans. Do the buttons right up, leave your shirt un-tucked and wear a long cardigan with a statement necklace from my online shop with some jeans for a more casual look if you don't think you can pull of this english inspired outfit.

Are you all ready for Halloween? Tristan and I are decorating this weekend. We are having a halloween party and the guest of honours are Mr. and Mrs. skeleton and their family. They'll be residing at our dinner table for the evening. (Can you tell I love halloween and can't wait for next weekend's party, strobe lights, fog machine, dry ice, guts, blood and more!)

Tristan and I are having some troubles figuring out what we should be. Here's our last two year outfits.
What are you going as? Do you celebrate halloween? What was your favourite costume you ever dressed up as?

eighty's crop tops

Outfit details-
Skirt: Vintage
Top: Sentamentalist vintage clothing in London, ON
Purse: Vintage, Chez thrift, bolton
shoe: Seychelles

I love tie cropped eighty shirts, and long flowy skirts, I guess that's why I've featured two long skirts on the blog this week. This purse is one of my favourite items. I find the shape just really neat. I also love anything navy since it's such a hard colour to find. This is a very summery outfit and makes me enjoy the last day of August. I really don't want the summer to end, but I heard September is going to be hot, which is good, since August was a bit of a rip off with how chilly it was.

I spent all this week preparing for the wedding show that I am in next weekend. As well I spent this weekend hunting down fifties attire for a creative I'm working on, an engagement editorial shoot. I'm super excited for this shoot, as of course I love the fifties! We are shooting at an old retro diner and a carnival fair. FUN.

I hope you are all headed to somewhere with a beach this weekend with the heat! My lad and I have special anniversary plans out of town.
Have a wonderful long weekend.

p.s. don't forget to check out my bridal boutique click here or my regular jewellery online shop click here for some new vintage upcycled pieces that went up on the shop this week. I'm quite bug eyed for this necklace (wink wink)
